Intuitive Healing Massage for Stress reduction, pain management, deep relaxation.
Before Your Massage The more relaxed you are the more benefit you will receive from your massage. It can be helpful to arrive a little early and allow yourself to let go of your day, your worries, your to do list, and spend a few minutes breathing slowly and deeply, meditating, praying, or simply listening to the music. If this is your first massage with me, I will need you to complete a medical history form, which I will go over with you. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment for this to avoid using your massage time on paperwork. There are some conditions for which massage should not be done, and other conditions which may require a doctor’s permission for massage.
It is probably best not to eat a large meal before your massage and to avoid stimulants such as caffeine. Massaging someone under the influence of alcohol or other depressant drugs is unethical, so it is best to avoid those, too.
Communication with your therapist is essential in getting the most from your session. You might spend a minute or two considering how your body feels, which areas may have been bothering you lately, or which are indicating they want some attention. You might also make note of which areas want to be left alone, like a bruise. If you have the opportunity, a warm bath or shower before your massage may help. You might also wear lose, comfortable clothing that is easy to get out of.
I take your feelings of security very seriously. You might recall that massage is a health care profession and anything you say to your therapist is legally and ethically considered confidential just like any medical information. Likewise, your physical security is also very important to me. Most often clients remove their clothing down to their shorts. However, it is important that you feel completely comfortable, so I am willing to massage you no matter how much clothing you feel you need to keep on. Proper draping to ensure your privacy is a regular part of any professional massage. Full body massage can include the buttocks. If you wish this area massaged, please inform me. If there are any areas you do not want massaged, for any reason, please let me know. For example, some people do not wish their feet massaged, or their inner thighs.
When the time for your massage arrives, you will be shown into the massage room and given privacy for disrobing. The massage table will be covered with bottom and top sheets and you need to lie between the two. I will knock before I re-enter the room. Please take the time to tell me if you find the lighting, temperature or music not to your liking. We want every part of the atmosphere to contribute to your relaxation.
Some people like to talk during a massage and some people like silence. I'm happy to be part of either. I will gladly listen and I will be happy to be quiet. Please do not hesitate to let me know if the pressure I am using is too light or too strong or if an area needs more attention. I am highly intuitive and your body will give me a lot of information. But it can tell you even more, so the more feedback you can give me, the better.
After Your Massage
After your massage it is important to drink extra water. Massage will help your tissues release toxins and the water will help flush this out of your body. Drink up to at least eight glasses a day. Avoid drinking alcohol or anything that contains caffeine, since these have a diuretic effect.
It is not uncommon to have some muscle soreness a day or so after a deep massage. If you experience soreness, the following can help:
- Stretch the sore area gently.
- Apply moist heat for no more than 20 minutes.
- Apply cold for no more than 20 minutes
- Take a hot bath or shower.
- Continue to drink plenty of water.
Massage relieves physical and, often, emotional stress. You can extend the benefits of your massage in several ways, including the following:
- a warm bath or shower
- a nap
- gentle stretching
- aromatherapy
- meditation
- prayer
- Play!
Massage may also aid in emotional release. If this has occurred during your massage, know that it is normal, and healthy, and treat yourself kindly.
If you have any questions after your massage please either call me or email me and I will be glad to help.
